My name is Vlad
(my site, twitter, what I read) and I
am a tech entrepreneur enjoying building things. I created TinyGem as a
repository for links I want to study later (instead of emailing them to
myself) and to automate the content discovery by using my saved links as a seed for
the recommendations.
For example check out this content recommendation:
The two articles do not share keywords in the title, but because TinyGem uses semantic similarity (of not just the title but also the article summary) it was able to surface an article related to user's previously saved article.
TinyGem is a free service, with future premium features planned for power users (for example larger language models for better recommendations).
Current operating cost of running the service is about $250/month (bulk of it being the GPU server needed for the language model). At about $10/day I already extract enough value from TinyGem's content recommendations alone so TinyGem is here to stay. With 100 users at $25/year it could even be self-sustainable. I also plan to make the recommendation API a standalone service in the future.
